Heuchera — stellar return

[ad_1]

This ornamental leafy plant once served as a favorite frame for rose bushes. Then, for some unknown reason, he was safely forgotten.
And suddenly, new varieties appear on the court of designers, brighter and longer-flowering. Geichera makes a splash and again becomes a favorite of gardeners.
It’s not even about the varieties, but rather that there are new trends in landscape design. Perennial plants with diverse foliage colors and modest flowers began to come to the fore.

Geichera belongs to this category. It is difficult to imagine all the variety of colors of its leaves: chocolate, purple, red, orange, amber, ocher, lime, pearl green, silvery bloom, bright streaks. And it can all be small, medium, large, flat or curly.

And what shades of flowers! Most geuchera have been able to show cream, pink and purple buds before. Now white, salmon, coral and rich red have been added to them.
The flowers themselves are small, the inflorescences are loose, but in the array it is an unusually delicate cloud, which, by the way, can be cut and placed in a vase.
Continuing the laudatory ode to geykhera, I want to pay attention to its other qualities. The plant is perennial, evergreen and hardy. The tough leaves are hardy, and if you inadvertently take on a curtain, you just need to ruffle it up to restore its shape.
By the way, slugs don’t eat it…
It got its name in honor of the German physician and botanist Johann Heinrich von Geicher. However, gardeners call it Coral bells (coral bells).
I used to pay attention to this highly ornamental plant, but somehow I put off the purchase: the variety is great and you don’t know what kind of “beauty” to buy. However, I could not resist and fell in love literally at first sight with this (pictured), blood-red variety «Firefly» (Firefly).
The leaves are rather modest, but it is simply impossible to pass indifferently past the miniature coral sparks. Blooms up to 3 months.

IT’S IMPORTANT TO KNOW
Purple geyher curtains will feel best in a sunny place, in shading they will simply turn green.
But green, «frosty», amber and lime shades will become most juicy in partial shade.
Green geyhera can also be planted in a shady flower garden.
Adult curtains should be periodically hilled to cover exposed roots.
GEICHERA IN GARDEN DESIGN
Each variety has its own distinctive features, primarily in size. Large varieties form clumps up to 45 cm in diameter. They are framed by paths and flower beds.
In this role, the geyhera even began to oppress the favorite of the British — the cuff, because it goes under the snow with an evergreen curtain and very quickly gains green mass in the spring.
More miniature species are best planted in rockeries or pots. There they will show themselves most clearly.

Blooming blood-red geyhera in large arrays looks unusual and beautiful.

Given the variety of colors, different varieties of geyhera can be safely planted in one motley mix.
It pairs well with almost any taller plant suitable for growing conditions, framing them beautifully from below.
Heuchera is also magnificent at the foot of coniferous mixes, as evergreen as itself.

REPRODUCTION AND TRANSPLANT
It is useless to propagate varietal geyhera by seeds. This method is only suitable for view forms.
The best way to get new individuals with varietal traits is division.
In fact, the most suitable place for any variety of geyhera is partial shade. However, if you want to cause abundant flowering and reproduction of this perennial, then it should be fed with compost in the fall, after transplanting it to a well-lit place.
Foliage color may suffer, but by the end of the season you will have plenty of planting material.
The optimal time for division is the beginning of May or August. You can and even need to divide bushes aged 3-4 years, otherwise you may lose a valuable variety.

A carefully dug rhizome is washed so that its structure is clearly visible. Young individuals are separated with a garden knife, the sections are sprinkled with ash.
Transplantation is carried out in a school or pot, in a shady place, so that the plant takes root and gets stronger. In the fall or next spring, it can be planted in a permanent place.
